Abstract:
Inguinal herniation of the bladder is a rare urologic occurrence, with intrascrotal bladder herniation containing calculi an exceptionally uncommon presentation. We report a 79-year-old African American man with chronic urinary retention and prior irradiation for prostate cancer who presented with a right inguinal hernia containing the majority of the bladder with intraluminal calculi. Intraoperatively, the bladder was found to be incarcerated despite a preoperative description as reducible. Despite proper anatomic restoration of the bladder, the patient failed a voiding trial at 2 months and suffered 3 hospitalizations over the follow-up period, highlighting the longer-term urologic sequelae of chronic bladder dysfunction.
