Abstract:
Claims data from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts from 2018 through the first half of 2025 reveal that recent spending growth was driven primarily by utilization and prescription drug spending, especially for GLP-1 medications, rather than by growth in inflation-adjusted prices for medical services. Changes in service mix contributed little to spending growth, and coding intensity has been increasing.
