AA and Male Fertility
1UND Life Sciences, Battle Ground, WA, USA.
Abstract:
AA is known to play a significant role in male fertility. AA metabolites, prostaglandins (PGs), were first discovered in the seminal fluid. It was assumed at the time of its discovery that PGs were formed by the prostate and hence were named as prostaglandins. PGs are crucial for sperm function. Lower PGE2 in the semen was found in those who are infertile. NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen) are known to affect male fertility, sperm function, and semen parameters. These results suggest that potential use of AA and PGE2 to enhance male fertility needs to be studied.
