Abstract:
Modern performance measurement in health care builds on Codman's "end result" concept and Donabedian's triad of structure, process, and outcomes as interdependent components of quality. These domains support perioperative thoracic oncology care by guiding the selection of validated, measurable key performance indicators. Structure indicators address capacity and resources; process indicators assess adherence to evidence-based pathways; and outcome indicators capture clinical results. In non-small cell lung cancer, key themes include timely multidisciplinary treatment-driven care, accurate staging, appropriate surgery and adjuvant therapy, Enhanced Recovery after Surgery use, systematic quality review, and integration of patient-reported outcome measures to complement traditional outcomes.

Endoscopic Studies I: Bronchoscopy and Thoracoscopy
Bronchoscopy
Description
Bronchoscopy is a procedure that involves direct visualization of the larynx, trachea, and bronchi for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. A flexible fiber optic or rigid bronchoscope is used to carry out the procedure. The fiber-optic bronchoscope is more frequently used due to...
Endoscopic Studies II: Thoracocentesis
Description
Excess pleural fluid or air may accumulate in some respiratory disorders in the thoracic cavity. To treat pleural effusion, a physician conducts thoracentesis by carefully piercing the chest wall and entering...

Radiological Investigation III: Pulmonary Angiogram and PET Scan
Pulmonary Angiogram
A Pulmonary Angiogram is an invasive procedure involving injecting a contrast medium through a catheter threaded into the pulmonary artery or the right side of the heart to visualize the pulmonary vasculature. Computed Tomography (CT) scans have mainly replaced this...
