Abstract:
In Pd6L4 cage catalysis, regioselectivity in the Diels-Alder reaction of 9-anthracenemethanol with non-homologous maleimides was computationally predicted and experimentally validated, giving selective 9,10-cycloadducts under 5 mol% cage loading. This work advances supramolecular confinement from mechanistic interpretation toward predictive control of reaction selectivity.

Generally, the best dienophiles are alkenes containing electron-withdrawing substituents such as carbonyl, nitrile, and nitro groups. The feasibility of a Diels–Alder reaction depends on...

Conformation
The simplest example of a diene is 1,3-butadiene, an acyclic conjugated π system. At room temperature, the molecule exists as a mixture of s-cis and s-trans conformers by virtue of rotation around the carbon–carbon single bond. Although the s-trans isomer is more stable, the...
Regioselectivity of Electrophilic Additions to Alkenes: Markovnikov's Rule
The hydrohalogenation of an unsymmetrical alkene can yield two haloalkane products, depending on which vinylic carbon takes up the halogen. However, one product usually predominates, where hydrogen adds to the vinylic carbon bearing the...
