MAIT cells show promise as an immunotherapy tool with both adaptive and innate characteristics
1Center for Infectious Medicine, Department of Medicine Huddinge, Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden.
Abstract:
May unconventional MAIT cells be an effective innovative immunotherapy tool against liver cancer? This question is addressed by Yang and colleagues in this issue of Med.1 Their findings with adoptive transfer of expanded human MAIT cells to cancer xenograft mouse models suggest that these cells may hold greater promise in the cancer field than previously thought.

Cells of the Adaptive Immune Response
Special Features of Adaptive Immunity
The primary cell types involved in adaptive immunity are T cells and B cells. Each type has a unique role in defending the body against pathogens. T cells are responsible for cell-mediated immunity. They identify and eliminate infected cells directly,...

Cytotoxic T Cells-mediated Immune Response
Immunological surveillance is the ability of immune cells to monitor and eliminate infected cells with intracellular pathogens, neoplastically transformed cells, and cells with non-self antigens. Cytotoxic T cells and NK...
