Abstract:
Percutaneous left atrial appendage closure is now an established strategy for thromboembolic prevention in atrial fibrillation. However, the organizational requirements governing its performance remain heterogeneous across regulations and healthcare systems, particularly in France. In this context, it is relevant to assess whether, in experienced centers, an organizational model based on specific expertise and a rapid surgical referral pathway could provide a safe alternative to the presence of on-site cardiac surgery. This article is in favor of extension in France of percutaneous left atrial appendage closure in centres without on-site cardiac surgery.
