Abstract:
The concept of healthy longevity, which means an increase in the duration of a healthy, active life, and not just its duration, is becoming key to shaping policy on aging in developed countries. This review examines how individual high-income countries have conceptualized and implemented the principles of healthy longevity. The analysis shows a broad alignment of national strategies with the resolution of the United Nations Decade for Healthy Aging (2021-2030), however, significant differences in approaches to implementation are revealed. The United States focuses on ten-year goals for public health and community-based system transformation. Singapore has transformed its leisure centers into comprehensive medical and social centers. Spain demonstrates a high degree of convergence of regional approaches with the UN framework programmes, while the UK has set ambitious but difficult-to-achieve goals to increase healthy life expectancy by five years by 2035. Australia's approach is unique in that it is shaped by the integration of climate and health issues, as well as the need to reform the care system for the elderly. In all the countries reviewed, the concept of healthy longevity encompasses prevention, interagency coordination, reduction of health inequalities, and transformation of increased life expectancy into years of functional independence and high quality of life.
