Abstract:
Female sexual dysfunction is a prevalent yet under-recognized condition encompassing disorders of sexual desire, arousal, orgasm, and genitopelvic pain. The International Society for the Study of Women's Sexual Health advocates a biopsychosocial, patient-centered framework integrating routine sexual health assessment, comprehensive evaluation, and individualized treatment. Common conditions include hypoactive sexual desire disorder, arousal and lubrication disorders associated with genitourinary syndrome of menopause, female orgasmic disorder, and genitopelvic pain/penetration disorder. Management combines behavioral, psychological, hormonal, pharmacologic, and physical therapy interventions. Improved clinician education, multidisciplinary collaboration, and proactive sexual health discussions are essential to enhance diagnosis, treatment, and quality-of-life outcomes.
