Abstract:
Perioperative medication management of patients with diabetes remains an important topic for anesthesia clinicians. Recent research and gaps in knowledge related to sodium glucose cotransporter and glucagon-like peptide medications have emphasized the need for an up-to-date understanding of clinical management in a variety of clinical circumstances. In this narrative review, we discuss the pertinent anesthesia considerations for each diabetic medication category in relation to recent perioperative research. Recommendations from major societies and expert panels for each category are also provided.
