Faculty Development for the Clinician-Educator
1Department of Anesthesiology, Yale School of Medicine, 333 Cedar Avenue, New Haven, CT 06520, USA.
Abstract:
While the majority of faculty within an academic anesthesiology department are clinician-educators, these faculty are not promoted at the same rate as research faculty and have greater career dissatisfaction. Faculty development will improve morale and assist the clinician-educator in career advancement. Clinician-educators are leaders, medical education researchers, and experts in curriculum and assessment. While mentoring is important, those in anesthesiology are having a difficult time finding senior clinician-educator mentors due to shortage created by the small number of individuals pursuing anesthesiology as a specialty in 1995 to 1998.
