Abstract:
Increasing the room-temperature (RT) ferromagnetic magnetization of bilayer graphene nanoribbons (BGNRs) is of great importance for spintronic device applications. Here, we show that by pure semi-ionic fluorine (s-F) functionalization with a high concentration of 21.65 atom %, the RT ferromagnetic magnetization of BGNRs can be increased twofold. This increase is proposed to arise from high-concentration s-F adatoms, which could induce both high-density local spins and itinerant electrons on the basal plane of BGNRs to realize ferromagnetic interactions between inter-basal-plane local spins and enhance Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida interaction between the interedge local spins. Our study provides an effective way to obtain ambient-stable and high-RT ferromagnetic magnetization of BGNRs for potential spintronic device applications.
