Abstract:
In recent years, capillary gel electrophoresis (CGE) has become a significant analytical technique for separating and analyzing biomacromolecules such as proteins, peptides, and nucleic acids, due to its high efficiency, throughput, and resolution. The gel material, which serves as the core component of CGE, directly determines the separation performance through its molecular sieving properties. This review systematically examines the gelation mechanisms, separation principles, and key applications of various gel materials used in CGE for biomacromolecule analysis. It focuses on the specific characteristics and limitations of CGE when different gel materials are employed, outlines future development trends, and aims to provide a theoretical foundation for establishing standardized CGE methodologies suitable for analyzing biomacromolecules of diverse types and molecular weights.

SDS-PAGE
A variation of gel electrophoresis, termed polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE), is commonly used for separating proteins according to their molecular size by passing them through a polyacrylamide gel. Because of the varying charges associated with amino acid side chains, PAGE can be used to separate intact proteins...
DNA Agarose Gel Electrophoresis
Gel extraction follows five major steps: running gel electrophoresis to separate fragments, isolating the individual bands, extracting DNA from those bands, and removing the dye and salts from the extracted mixture to obtain pure DNA.
