Abstract:
Plate osteosynthesis has evolved significantly, progressing from the first plates with externally protruding screws to anatomically precontoured systems designed for minimally invasive application. In this narrative review, we provide a brief recap of the history of locked plating and highlight the most relevant developments of the last two decades. These include anatomical innovations and mechanobiologically optimized plates, as well as emerging systems capable of monitoring the fracture healing progress.
