Abstract:
Store-and-forward teledermatology can improve access to dermatologic care by facilitating communication between primary care providers (PCPs) and dermatologists. A pediatric dermatology- specific peer-to-peer store-and-forward (SAF) telemedicine service was implemented to provide timely pediatric dermatology consultation. A retrospective chart review of pediatric dermatology consultations completed through this service in 2021 was performed to evaluate utilization, workflow efficiency, and clinical utility. The service was used by a variety of referring providers and addressed a broad spectrum of pediatric dermatologic conditions. Most consultations were completed rapidly, with timely responses that frequently influenced patient management. These findings suggest that a pediatric dermatology-specific SAF service is a feasible and efficient telemedicine model that enhances access to specialty expertise, supports care coordination, and integrates into clinical practice without substantially increasing consultant workload.
