Abstract:
Chronic insomnia is a major public health issue due to its impact on quality of life, cognition, fall risk, and morbidity-mortality. Its prevalence increases with age. Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia remains the first-line treatment recommended by health societies but is very difficult to access (only 1% in Switzerland). Pharmacological treatment remains a second-line option. Prolonged-release melatonin and daridorexant (a dual orexin receptor antagonist) are potential options for long-term therapy.
