Introduction:
The healthcare industry is quickly adopting artificial intelligence (AI). Understanding Americans' views is essential in shaping how these tools are developed and implemented.
Methodology:
The data presented here were derived from 16 national surveys of US adults extracted from the Roper Center iPoll database (January 1, 2022-June 24, 2026).
Results:
This analysis reveals a significant equity issue: more than 4 in 10 Americans using AI for a health question did so, in part, because they could not access or afford care. It also reveals a gap between what Americans believe AI can do for the healthcare system and their trust in it for their care.
Discussion:
Public concerns about AI are leading to legislative action at the state level, but this activity primarily focuses on oversight, accuracy, and privacy, not on the access gap driving AI use for many Americans.
