Abstract:
This study analyzed the prevalence and factors associated with electronic cigarette use among university students in Southern Brazil. A cross-sectional study was conducted in 2023 with 1,138 students. The outcome was self-reported electronic cigarette use, and associated variables included sociodemographic, behavioral, and mental health factors. Adjusted analysis showed higher use among individuals aged 20-21, former and self-reported smokers, those with alcohol abuse, and individuals with close acquaintances who use electronic cigarette or who believe them to be safer. The findings reveal a relevant prevalence and reinforce the need for public health strategies to reduce use among young adults.
