Abstract:
Caesarean section during the second stage of labour has been associated with an increased risk of subsequent preterm birth. This risk has been hypothesised to be a product of inadvertent cervical trauma, compromising the integrity of the cervix in the subsequent pregnancy. Understanding the biological complications of this procedure may help guide clinician decision-making to reduce future risk of preterm birth within this population.
