Abstract:
Liposomes present a promising architecture for the design of responsive MRI CAs. The ability to co-encapsulate diagnostic and therapeutic payloads further allows for (targeted) imaging and treatment of disease in vivo. Tuneable control over embedded motifs, or modification of the bilayer phospholipids themselves, can support a programmable response to disease microenvironments. In this review we summarise the design and underpinning theoretical principles relevant to the production of next-generation diagnostically potent responsive liposome-based MRI CAs.
