Abstract:
Academic jargon is ubiquitous in scholarly communication and can obscure rather than enhance meaning. This satire examines "Academic Jargonitis" as a hypothetical, highly transmissible condition affecting academics, manuscripts, and reviewers. Its origin, epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and prognosis are described using a deliberately medical framework. Particular attention is given to the progressive transformation of simple language into unnecessarily complex terminology and to the potential use of jargon to camouflage uncertainty, failure, and disagreement. The satire concludes that academic writing should prioritize precision, clarity, and structure over linguistic complexity.
