Abstract:
In this issue of Molecular Cell, Li et al.1 define TEtrans, a class of RNA transcripts that initiate and splice between transposable elements independent of host genes. Mining population-scale transcriptome databases, they uncover a widespread, tumor-enriched repertoire of protein-coding and non-coding TEtrans associated with cancer outcomes.
