[The compulsory confinement of mental patients (author's transl)]

Compulsory transfer of mental patients to closed hospital wards will continue to be a special burden on psychiatrists, social workers, relatives and legal courts. Attempts to establish close mutual therapeutic contacts must set in as early as ever possible. Medical and legal aspects regarding the implementation of the "confinement laws" are described, while taking into consideration recent developments in medical treatment and legislature.
