    Background:

    • Warts are common skin infections caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV).
    • The immune system's role in wart resolution is not fully understood.
    • Previous studies suggest a link between antibody presence and wart clearance.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the association between wart-virus antibodies and the duration and healing of warts.
    • To differentiate the impact of different antibody types on wart regression.
    • To explore the immunological factors influencing wart cure.

    Main Methods:

    • Observation of 173 patients with warts for 3-6 months.
    • Measurement of wart-virus antibodies using immunodiffusion (I.D.) and complement-fixation (C.F.) techniques.
    • Correlation analysis between antibody presence/type and wart healing rates.

    Main Results:

    • 80% of patients had detectable wart-virus antibodies (I.D. and/or C.F.).
    • Patients with C.F. antibodies (IgG) showed rapid healing (75% cured in 2 months).
    • Patients with I.D.-detectable antibodies (IgM/low IgG) had slower healing (16% cured in 2 months).

    Conclusions:

    • The presence of C.F. antibodies is strongly associated with accelerated wart healing.
    • Wart regression appears to be influenced by specific immunological responses.
    • Non-immune factors may also contribute to wart resolution in some cases.
