[Phytohemagglutinin-stimulated lymphocyte proliferation in a diffusion chamber in vivo]

Lymphocyte proliferation stimulated with phytohaemagglutinin (PHA) was studied in vivo. For control aims experiments were done also lymphocytes without PHA. In the investigations the technique of diffusion chamber was used. Chambers with lymphocytes (1 X 10(6) cells in a chamber) were implanted into the peritoneal cavity of mice. On the 1st, 3rd, 6th, 10th, 13th, 17th and 29th days of culture the number of cells and the proportions of blast cells and small lymphocytes were determined. It was demonstrated that peripheral blood lymphocytes exposed to PHA proliferated in vivo. This was expressed initially as a rise in the blood cell count and this rise decreased more slowly than the number of cells in non-stimulated cultures.
