    Background:

    • Sickle cell disease is associated with an increased risk of vaso-occlusive events, including retinal vascular occlusions.
    • Retinal vascular occlusions can lead to significant vision loss.

    Observation:

    • A 25-year-old male with sickle cell disease presented with simultaneous bilateral retinal vascular occlusions.
    • The patient underwent exchange transfusions as a therapeutic intervention.

    Findings:

    • Following exchange transfusions, reestablishment of patency in the previously occluded retinal vessels was observed.
    • The patient experienced recovery of good central vision post-treatment.

    Implications:

    • Exchange transfusions, typically used for life-threatening conditions, show promise for treating retinal arterial occlusions in sickle cell disease patients.
