Red cell 2,3-DPG levels in diabetic vasculopathy.

    Summary

    Increased red blood cell 2,3-diphosphoglycerate (2,3-DPG) levels are linked to arterial vasculopathy in both diabetics and non-diabetics. This elevation appears to be a consequence of vascular disease, not diabetes itself.
