Osteotomy of the distal radius with a biplanar iliac bone graft for malunion

Abstract:
Active patients with malunions of the distal radius (more than one inch of shortening), with complaints of weak grip and limited forearm rotation and wrist motion, gained improved function as a result of a distal radial osteotomy with the insertion of a biplanar iliac bone graft. Those patients in the series with median nerve symptoms (about 50 percent) had their symptoms relieved with surgery. All patients felt that their forearm relationship was cosmetically improved.
