Subcalcaneal pain. A method of evaluation and plan for treatment

Subcalcaneal pain, a clinical syndrome characterized by pain beneath the heel, is aggravated by ambulation and is not associated with any single trauma. Many hypotheses concerning the etiology and forms of treatment have been proposed. A correct evaluation of subcalcaneal pain is based on the anatomic factors that produce the abnormality. Management includes oral medication, local injections, mechanical aids, and surgical procedures. A surgical procedure that includes release of the nerve entrapment, release of the fascia, and excision of the bone spur is performed.
