Effect of electroconvulsive therapy on serum myelin basic protein immunoreactivity.
Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) did not cause measurable myelin breakdown in psychiatric patients. A sensitive assay for myelin basic protein showed no significant changes in serum levels after multiple ECT treatments, indicating no detectable damage to myelin.
