Circulating immune complexes (CIC) are prevalent in polymyalgia rheumatica and giant cell arteritis patients. While not diagnostic, CIC levels correlate with inflammation markers and may contribute to disease development.

Background:

Polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) and giant cell arteritis (GCA) are inflammatory conditions.
The role of immune complexes in these diseases is not fully understood.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the prevalence and significance of circulating immune complexes (CIC) in patients with PMR and GCA.

Main Methods:

Detection of CIC in patient sera.
Correlation analysis with erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR).

CIC were detected in the majority of patients with PMR alone, PMR-GCA, and GCA alone.
