    Summary

    Low dietary fiber intake is linked to acute appendicitis. Patients with appendicitis consumed less fiber daily compared to healthy controls, suggesting a dietary role in appendicitis development.

    Background:

    • Acute appendicitis is a common surgical emergency.
    • The etiology of appendicitis is not fully understood.
    • Dietary factors are increasingly recognized as potential contributors to appendicitis.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the association between dietary fiber consumption and the risk of developing acute appendicitis.
    • To determine if reduced fiber intake is a significant factor in appendicitis pathogenesis.

    Main Methods:

    • A case-control study was conducted.
    • Dietary fiber intake was assessed using food diaries.
    • 31 patients diagnosed with acute appendicitis were compared to 30 age- and sex-matched controls.
