Human values vs. political and economic realities

There is no question, as in other industries, that there is room for improvement in hospitals' performance. However, the managers of these institutions can be justifiably proud of their past performance. There is little evidence that further intrusion in health care matters by the federal government will lead to significant reductions in the cost of health care services. The evidence seems to suggest that health care providers, working together, can have such an effect.
