    Summary

Synovial sarcoma in children presents as extremity soft-tissue masses. Computed tomography (CT) is crucial for assessing tumor extent and guiding treatment, despite challenges in defining exact margins.

    Area of Science:

    • Pediatric Oncology
    • Diagnostic Imaging
    • Orthopedic Oncology

    Background:

    • Synovial sarcoma is a rare soft-tissue malignancy affecting children.
    • Early and accurate diagnosis is essential for effective management.

    Observation:

    • This study describes clinical and radiologic findings in seven pediatric patients with synovial sarcoma.
    • Lesions were located in extremities, presenting as soft-tissue masses without calcification on plain radiographs.

    Findings:

    • Computed tomography (CT) revealed peripheral enhancement and central hypoenhancement, indicative of necrosis and hemorrhage.
    • Accurate margin definition was challenging even with contrast-enhanced CT.

    Implications:

    • CT is recommended for evaluating local tumor extent in pediatric synovial sarcoma.
    • Imaging findings aid in treatment planning and monitoring therapeutic response.
