Qualifying factors in the classification of asthma: how valuable they are to the clinician
Abstract:
The earliest scientists who investigated asthma and attempted to classify it in pathophysiological terms raised questions which hundreds of years later remain unanswered. Today, the consensus appears to be that little is gained--in terms of clinical significance--by additional attempts at classification. In fact, there is evidence that the various classifications of asthma are merely multiple manifestations of the same disease, having essentially the same pathophysiology.
