    Summary

    Pyogenic liver abscesses are often caused by anaerobic bacteria and polymicrobial infections. Advances in diagnostics and antimicrobial therapies are shifting treatment from open surgical drainage to percutaneous aspiration or antimicrobial treatment alone.
