Makeshift medicine. Combating disease in Japanese prison camps

Much has been written of the horrors experienced by prisoners of war at the hands of the Japanese, but little has been told of the ingenuity of these men in overcoming seemingly insuperable difficulties to improvise and devise ways of helping each other. This paper is a personal account of experiences in Changi, in jungle camps on the Burma-Thailand railway, and in camps in Japan.
