Abstract:
FSH and LH levels as well as the ratio of LH to FSH before and after wedge resection were checked in 25 women with polycystic ovaries in connection with histomorphology. The probands were subdivided histomorphologically by the following three groups: 1. diffuse hyperplasia and luteinized theca interna; 2. foci of hyperplastic and luteinized stroma cells; 2. various corpus luteum-formations. A correlation was found to exist between gonadotropin levels in serum and histomorphological changes. FSH levels, for example, were much lower in the third group, while postoperative LH levels remained to be higher in cases of more strongly pronounced follicular and stromal luteinisation and more strongly manifest changes in corpus luteum-formations.
