    Summary

Focal positive spikes and sharp waves on electroencephalograms (EEGs) are rare, particularly in children with convulsive disorders. Differentiating these EEG findings from artifacts and other discharges is crucial for accurate diagnosis.

    Area of Science:

    • Clinical Neurophysiology
    • Pediatric Neurology
    • Epileptology

    Background:

    • Focal positive spikes and sharp waves are uncommon findings in clinical electroencephalography (EEG), observed in approximately 0.13% of EEGs.
    • These specific EEG discharges are predominantly seen in early life and are often associated with convulsive disorders.
