Effects of hyperventilation on cerebral blood flow and metabolism

Abstract:
Hyperventilation has been shown to be an effective therapy for PPHN. In this article, cerebral blood flow and its control mechanisms in the fetus and neonate are reviewed and it is concluded that, at present, there is no evidence to suggest that hyperventilation can produce cerebral ischemia.
