[The index of left ventricle dilatation estimated with echocardiography in infarct patients]
Insights
The new index of dilatation (ID) effectively identifies left ventricular dysfunction in heart attack patients. This echocardiographic measure shows increased values in decompensated patients, even with minor changes in other indicators.
Area of Science:
- Cardiology
- Echocardiography
- Cardiac Physiology
Context:
- Assessing left ventricular function in patients post-myocardial infarction is crucial for clinical management.
- Existing echocardiographic parameters like Vcf and Fe may show subtle changes in early stages of cardiac decompensation.
- There is a need for sensitive markers to evaluate left ventricular performance in infarcted individuals.
Purpose:
- To introduce and validate a novel echocardiographic parameter, the index of dilatation (ID), for the functional assessment of the left ventricle in patients with myocardial infarction.
Summary:
- The index of dilatation (ID) was developed as a new echocardiographic parameter for evaluating left ventricular function in infarcted patients.
- The ID was consistently elevated in infarcted patients exhibiting clinical signs of cardiac decompensation, even when other measures like Vcf and Fe showed minimal alterations.
- The study suggests the ID correlates with post-trans-diastolic volume of the left ventricle (PTDVS) and serves as a valuable, time-controllable indicator of left ventricular performance.
Impact:
- The index of dilatation (ID) offers a potentially more sensitive tool for detecting and monitoring left ventricular dysfunction in post-infarction patients.
- This new parameter may aid in earlier identification of cardiac decompensation, allowing for timely therapeutic interventions.
- The ID provides a controllable metric for tracking the progression or improvement of left ventricular function over time in clinical practice.
Abstract:
The Authors have introduced, for functional valuation of the left ventricle in infarcted patients, an echocardiographic new parameter: the index of dilatation (ID). This index constantly show oneself increased in all infarcted patients that clinically show marks of the cardiac decompensation, also when the Vcf and Fe show modest alterations. According to the Authors, the ID have in report with the PTDVS and constitute and important evidence of the left ventricular working controllable in the time.
