Histochemical and histopathological liver aspects during pneumocystosis
Abstract:
124 liver fragments taken on autopsy from children presenting pneumocystosis in the final stage were histochemically and histopathologically studied. There were predominantly metabolic disturbances (albuminous degeneration and fatty changes of hepatocytes) and reduced inflammatory cell infiltrates. Histochemically there were revealed three types of reticulin networks: reactivity of glycolipoproteins, of glycoproteins and fuchsinophilia. It was possible to establish a correlation between these three types of networks and the liver histological lesions. The utility of liver histopathological examination for the estimation of clinical prognosis and for treatment is pointed out.
