    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate T cell subset distribution and function in leprosy patients with and without Erythema Nodosum Leprosum (ENL).
    • To explore the immunological basis of ENL reactions in lepromatous leprosy.

    Main Methods:

    • Monoclonal antibody analysis of T cell subpopulations (total, helper, suppressor/cytotoxic).
    • In vitro proliferative responses to mitogens.
    • Concanavalin A-induced suppressive activity assessment.
    • Delayed-type hypersensitivity skin testing.

    • Lepromatous patients with ENL exhibited altered T cell subset percentages (increased helper, decreased suppressor T cells) and elevated mitogen responses.

    • Concanavalin A-induced suppressive activity was diminished in most ENL patients.

    • This T cell dysregulation may contribute to the pathogenesis of ENL.
