    Patients with sickle cell anaemia show elevated immunoglobulin G and A levels. Lower IgG2 subclass concentrations were observed, potentially linking to recurrent bacterial infections in sickle cell disease patients.

    Background:

    • Sickle cell anaemia is a genetic blood disorder.
    • Patients with sickle cell anaemia are prone to recurrent infections.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate immunoglobulin levels in sickle cell anaemia patients.
    • To explore potential links between immunoglobulin levels and infection susceptibility.

    Main Methods:

    • Immunological study of 8 sickle cell anaemia patients.
    • Measurement of immunoglobulin G (IgG), IgA, and IgM concentrations.
    • Analysis of IgG subclass interactions with Protein A and radial immunodiffusion.

    Main Results:

    • Significantly higher IgG and IgA levels in patients compared to normal controls (P < 0.01).
