Mitogen response of lymphocytes in platelet concentrates. Effect of storage and adenine

The mitogen responsiveness of lymphocytes obtained from platelet concentrates under standard platelet storage conditions was measured. Blastogenic response to phytohemaglutinin, concanavalin A, and pokeweed mitogen declined significantly during storage to 19, 51, and 26 percent respectively of original activity. The presence of adenine supplementation in the anticoagulant preservative solution did not significantly effect the mitogen responses.
