[The hypertensive crisis]

As hypertensive crisis may lead to death or to permanent organic defects a rapid therapy is necessary. In addition to general therapies a series of highly efficient antihypertensive agents are at our disposal. Advantages as well as disadvantages of these substances and their consequences to the hemodynamic are being discussed. Giving preference to an antihypertensive agent is mainly determined by the clinical symptoms and the available monitoring devices.
