The anterior resection operation revisited.

    Summary

    This study shows that using automated stapling instruments for anterior resection of the rectum and rectosigmoid colon resulted in zero mortality and no serious complications in 123 patients. The technique safely creates a colorectal mechanical anastomosis without purse-strings.
