    Summary

    Circumferential pneumatic compression suits (CPCS) applied to limbs can impede arterial blood flow. This may increase the risk of compartment syndrome, especially when orthopedic traction devices are used concurrently.

    Background:

    • Circumferential pneumatic compression suits (CPCS) are used in trauma care.
    • The impact of CPCS on limb perfusion, particularly with pre-existing traction devices, requires investigation.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the effects of CPCS on digital arterial toe pressures in normal and ischemic limbs.
    • To assess the influence of orthopedic traction devices applied before CPCS on limb perfusion.

    Main Methods:

    • Digital arterial toe pressures were measured in 11 normal and 6 claudicating limbs with CPCS at varying pressures (40-100 mm Hg).
    • Testing was repeated on normal limbs after applying Hare traction and Sager splint devices prior to CPCS.
