Side effects during therapy with low dosage amiodarone.

Background:

Amiodarone is an effective antiarrhythmic medication.
The precise incidence and predictability of amiodarone-related side effects remain unclear.

Purpose of the Study:

To prospectively evaluate the incidence of side effects associated with amiodarone treatment.
To determine if amiodarone blood levels predict adverse events.
To assess the impact of amiodarone on thyroid function.

Main Methods:

A prospective trial involving 58 patients treated with 400 or 200 mg of amiodarone daily for 56 days.
Monitoring included thyroid and liver function tests, complete blood count, chest X-ray, and ECG.
Regular assessment of subjective disturbances and physical signs was performed.
