    Summary

    Genetic analysis revealed balanced translocations in 7% of couples with recurrent miscarriages, primarily in females. These carriers experienced significantly higher rates of abnormal pregnancy outcomes, including miscarriages and affected offspring.

    Background:

    • Recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA) affects 1-5% of couples.
    • The etiology of RSA remains unknown in many cases.
    • Chromosomal abnormalities are a known risk factor for RSA.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the prevalence of chromosomal abnormalities in couples with unexplained recurrent spontaneous abortions.
    • To determine the reproductive outcomes of carriers of balanced translocations identified in these couples.

    Main Methods:

    • Chromosome analysis using G-Banding technique was performed.
    • Karyotyping was conducted on 70 individuals from 35 couples with a history of RSA.
    • Pregnancy outcomes were analyzed for identified balanced translocation carriers.
